A straight-up, old-fashioned strawberry milkshake has the power to transform a long summer's day into a memorable one. This 4-ingredient milkshake is made with frozen strawberries and vanilla ice cream for an easy treat, and no need to sacrifice a basketful of your beautiful fresh berries.
My family goes nuts every time I make milkshakes, which took me years to start making, despite how absolutely easy they are. You do need a blender, and I had a blender that was...unfun to use...until I got a Nutribullet, which is. Fun. So, a small blender works perfectly here.
Strawberry as a milkshake flavor is sort of a forgotten favorite, quickly left out when chocolate joins the party, but you know what? When I just go ahead and make strawberry, everyone remembers how much they like this simple treat.
There are only four ingredients in this strawberry milkshake, not counting the optional-but-obviously-recommended whipped cream on top: frozen strawberries (Costco makes a big bag of OU ones), vanilla ice cream, milk, and vanilla of some kind. Vanilla bean paste is extra nice here if you can spare some, but regular vanilla extract works just fine. So, these aren't necessarily all pantry items and you might have to remember to pick up a small container of vanilla ice cream and some frozen strawberries (also good for making strawberry jam, a quick strawberry sauce for desserts, berry crisps, and the like). But, once you're stocked, just blend away until everything's smooth and creamy and all is right in the world. Need more than two servings? The recipe is easily multiplied, provided you have room in your blender jar.
By the way, I'm kind of a purist when it comes to whipped cream and I'm the type to insist on whipping it myself, but I have to concede that there are now good-quality ready whipped cream that are easy to keep around for sudden milkshake topping needs. A definite plus when you don't feel like schlepping everyone to Coffee Bean for overpriced beverages.
